My First Frightful Experience at Halloween Horror Nights 24

For years, I had dreamed of experiencing Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, and in 2024, I finally made it happen! As a longtime fan of all things spooky, I had high expectations for the event, and I can confidently say it did not disappoint. From the terrifying haunted houses to the immersive Scare Zones, every moment was packed with frights, screams, and an electrifying atmosphere that left me eager to return for future events.

A Smooth and Accessible Experience

I attended the event with  close family friends and their son, who is Autistic. Knowing that long wait times can be challenging for him, we opted for a Disability Access Service (DAS) pass—a decision that significantly improved our night. Without it, we would have been stuck in lines for over two hours per house. Instead, the pass allowed us to wait no more than 30 minutes for each attraction. While we couldn’t jump from house to house instantly—there was a short wait between each reservation—it was absolutely worth it.

For anyone attending HHN with a family member who has a disability, I highly recommend taking advantage of the DAS pass. It made our night so much more enjoyable, ensuring we could experience everything without unnecessary stress.

Accessibility and Motorized Wheelchairs

In addition to the DAS pass, I also needed to use a motorized wheelchair during the event due to a Lyme disease flare-up. While the wheelchair was incredibly helpful for getting around the park, I quickly discovered that it wasn’t always the most convenient option for navigating the haunted house lines. Many of the queues were narrow and could not accommodate motorized wheelchairs, requiring me to park it outside before entering the house on foot.

This is something to keep in mind if you or a loved one requires a motorized wheelchair and cannot walk for extended periods. While the park does provide accessibility accommodations, the design of some haunted house queues may present a challenge. If staying in a motorized wheelchair is a necessity, it would be worth reaching out to Universal Orlando’s accessibility services ahead of time to discuss the best options for enjoying the event.

Conquering All the Haunted Houses

I had mentally prepared myself for the terror ahead, but nothing quite compares to walking through those darkened corridors with monsters lurking around every corner.

One thing that surprised me was how brave I became over the course of the night. At first, I was hesitant, gripping onto my friends as we made our way through the houses. But before long, I found myself leading the group through the haunted mazes, ready to take on whatever horrors lay ahead. The set designs, special effects, and scare actors were all top-notch, creating an unforgettable, pulse-pounding experience.

Thanks to the DAS pass, I was able to experience every haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 24, as well as explore all the Scare Zones. Each house offered a unique and terrifying experience:

  • Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – Inspired by the film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, this house follows the Ghostbusters as they battle a new supernatural threat—Garraka, an ancient specter unleashing a deadly second Ice Age. Guests explore iconic locations like the firehouse, Ray’s Occult Books, and the New York sewer system while encountering famous ghosts and villains.

  • A Quiet Place – Based on the A Quiet Place films, this haunted house plunges guests into a terrifying world where silence is key to survival. Traveling from the farmhouse to the woods and beyond, guests must navigate a post-apocalyptic landscape while avoiding monstrous creatures that attack at the slightest sound.

  • Insidious: The Further – This house immerses guests in The Further, a dark parallel dimension filled with malevolent entities from the Insidious franchise. The Red-Faced Demon, KeyFace, and other terrifying spirits await around every corner, ready to trap visitors in their twisted domain.

  • Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines – An epic battle unfolds between classic horror icons in this haunted house. Dracula’s Daughter leads a monstrous alliance against the forces of Saskia Van Helsing and the Bride of Frankenstein. Gothic settings, eerie atmospheres, and gruesome encounters bring this horror tale to life.

  • Slaughter Sinema 2 – A sequel to the cult-favorite 2018 haunted house, this attraction takes guests into a horror B-movie marathon at the Carey Drive-In. Each room is themed after a different grindhouse-style film, featuring over-the-top creatures, twisted killers, and terrifying scenarios pulled straight from horror cinema.

  • Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America – La Muerte herself guides guests through encounters with some of Latin America’s most feared supernatural beings. Visitors face off against the bloodthirsty Tlahuelpuchi, the eerie owl-witch La Lechuza, and the terrifying bone-ripping El Silbón in a chilling folklore-inspired experience.

  • Triplets of Terror – This original haunted house tells the gruesome story of the Barmy triplets, who reenact their family’s brutal murders as part of a twisted birthday celebration. Every decade, the slaughter begins again, and this time, guests are part of the deadly festivities.

  • Major Sweets Candy Factory – What starts as a fun field trip to a candy factory quickly turns sinister. The free samples have transformed children into candy-coated killers, wielding sharpened sweets as weapons. The eerie contrast of bright, sugary colors and gruesome horror makes this house a truly unsettling experience.

  • Goblin’s Feast – Enter a goblin village in the midst of a grand feast—but you soon realize that you are the main course! As goblins, orcs, and witches prepare their monstrous banquet, guests must escape before becoming the next dish on the menu.

  • The Museum: Deadly Exhibits – What should have been a routine visit to a folklore museum turns into a nightmare when an ancient evil known as The Rotting Stone escapes. The exhibits come to life in horrifying ways, and guests must survive the chaos unleashed within the museum’s cursed halls.

Each haunted house delivered its own unique brand of terror, making my first Halloween Horror Nights an absolutely unforgettable experience!

The Scare Zones of Halloween Horror Nights 2024

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 at Universal Orlando Resort featured five immersive scare zones, each offering unique frights and atmospheric experiences:

  • Enter the Blumhouse: This scare zone brought to life characters from Blumhouse Productions’ iconic horror films. Guests encountered sinister figures like The Grabber from The Black Phone and the unnervingly lifelike M3GAN, who danced her way into visitors’ nightmares. The presence of M3GAN, with her unsettling demeanor, added a chilling touch that left a lasting impression on many attendees.

  • Torture Faire: Set within a twisted Renaissance Faire, this zone showcased medieval torture devices and performers eager to demonstrate their gruesome functions. The immersive environment transported guests to a bygone era where the macabre was on full display.

  • Swamp of the Undead: In the murky backwaters of Louisiana, this scare zone featured zombies risen from the bog, creating an eerie and foreboding atmosphere. The dense fog and haunting sounds made guests feel as though they were wandering through a real, haunted swamp.

  • Duality of Fear: Upon entering the event, guests faced a choice between two paths: the horror of SINIST3R or the terror of SURR3AL. This bifurcated scare zone played on the dual nature of fear, challenging visitors to confront their deepest anxieties.

  • Demon Queens: This otherworldly hellscape was ruled by four merciless queens loyal to SURR3AL. Their presence dominated the area, with each queen embodying a unique aspect of terror, creating an environment both mesmerizing and terrifying.

Among these, personal highlights included encountering M3GAN in the Enter the Blumhouse scare zone, where her unsettling dance and lifelike appearance added a unique layer of horror. Additionally, being chased by chainsaw-wielding performers heightened the adrenaline, and the impeccable costume designs throughout the event showcased the remarkable craftsmanship that contributed to the immersive horror experience.
